Archäologisches Museum
The Archaeological Museum preserves, researches and communicates Frankfurt's oldest history and brings classical antiquity and the Ancient Near East to life. The exhibition rooms are located in the medieval church of the former Carmelite monastery. There, visitors take a journey back in time to the beginnings of human culture, the oldest farming cultures to high and late medieval monasteries, pilgrimage on the Way of St. James and the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. In the "Classical Antiquity" and "Ancient Orient" collections, visitors can marvel at finds from the Mediterranean region, Asia Minor, Greece, Italy and North Africa. The focus is on early Italy of the Etruscans, Latins and other peoples "before the Romans" as well as one of the most extensive collections of ancient Iranian small art in all of Germany. In the main part of the transept, changing special exhibitions take place; in the dependence Kaiserpfalz franconofurd opens a shop window into 2000 years of Frankfurt city history.
