Bartholomäusdom
The beginnings of the imperial cathedral date back to the year 852. In 1239 it was consecrated to its namesake, St. Bartholomew, and converted into a Gothic hall church. Ten German emperors were crowned here between 1562 and 1792. This important period in German history can still be explored today: Inside the cathedral, in the medieval cloister, is the Cathedral Museum. This includes the 95-meter-high cathedral tower: those who dare the steep climb (328 steps) are rewarded with a magnificent view over the city, which was unique in the Middle Ages.
