Hauptwache
The baroque building was erected as early as 1729 and gives its name to the square and the underground street and subway stations. At that time it was the seat of the city militia and also contained a prison. Destroyed during World War II, it was first makeshiftly renovated and then later rebuilt - in a slightly different position. Today there is a café inside, and since April 2022 the Museum of Modern Electronic Music (MOMEM) has been at home under the Hauptwache building.
