Museum für Moderne Kunst
The Museum of Modern Art, MMK for short, is present at several locations in the city. The main building is located in the city center and was built in 1991 by Viennese architect Hans Hollein. It captivates with its triangular architecture, also called a piece of cake, and is now internationally regarded as an icon of postmodernism. The museum's own holdings number over 5000 works of art, from the 1960s to the present. Major retrospectives and collection presentations are shown. The two other locations, the Zollamt MMK in Domstraße and the Tower MMK not far from the Bahnhofsviertel, are within walking distance. Tip: Plan a visit to the museum café and try the delicious sourdough bread.
