Kiev Grand Ballet - Swan Lake
After acclaimed successful tours through Europe and the USA, the award-winning top dancers of the Kiev Grand Ballet (Ukr.: Grand Kyiv Ballet) will return to Germany and Switzerland in January 2025. The Kyiv Grand Ballet has been one of the most successful companies in the international ballet world for ten years. Founded in 2014 by Alexander Stoyanov in Kiev, the ensemble stands for classical ballet art at the highest level. The dancers have won numerous awards and have enchanted audiences on famous stages from Paris to New York. The ballet troupe regularly tours the USA, South America, Australia, Asia and Europe. In January 2025, the Kiev Grand Ballet will be visiting Germany and Switzerland for the third time - with Tchaikovsky's masterpiece "Swan Lake" and with Ana Sophia Scheller as a special guest. The Argentinian star ballerina began ballet training at the age of six and received the Presidential Scholarship for Cultural Excellence in Classical Dance at the age of 13. She moved from Buenos Aires to the New York City Ballet, where she was also appointed principal. Her travels as a guest and gala artist have taken her to stages all over the world, from Singapore to Sicily and San Francisco. In Swan Lake with the Kiev Grand Ballet, she will portray Odette. "Swan Lake" is one of the best-known and most popular ballet works in the world. The plot revolves around Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with the swan princess Odette. She has been transformed into a swan by the evil sorcerer Redbeard. The enchanted princess and her entourage of swan maidens are only human at night and spend the day at the lake in their swan-like form. Siegfried swears eternal love to Odette in order to break the spell. Redbeard refuses to allow this and allows Siegfried to be seduced by the "black swan" Odile, whom he mistakes for Odette. This entanglement leads to the dramatic final battle between Siegfried and Rothbart and the question of whether true love will prevail. The Swan Lake music by Peter Tchaikovsky is a captivating mixture of passionate melodies that reflect the emotional depth of the plot. The "swan theme" is particularly well-known and has an iconic presence.
