Extrabreit - The German punk veterans back in the Colos-Saal
They mocked the police, set fire to the school and sang gloomily about the death of the president. They let the plane take off at parties, conjured up the delights of kleptomania and the abysses of cocaine: at the end of the 70s, five boys from Hagen discovered the beauty of the 3-minute guitar anthem with snotty, subversive lyrics and soon after conquered the charts: Gestatten, Extrabreit, the inventors of German pop-punk. Over the years, the band around Kai Havaii and Stefan Kleinkrieg has reached album no. 13 and has regularly gone on a "Christmas blitz tour" since their reunion in 2002. The fact that the music of the "Breiten" has now - more than 45 years after its foundation - become a kind of national cultural asset is also evident at top festivals such as the Wacken Open Air, where the band was enthusiastically celebrated in 2018 and 2019. Anyone who knows Extrabreit's live shows knows that they are real events. The band celebrates their songs, which refused to be pigeonholed back in the 1980s. Party bangers and cult songs such as "Flieger" and "Hurra, die Schule brennt" are contrasted with darkly sarcastic descriptions of the times such as in "Polizisten" or "Der Präsident ist tot". In addition to the traditional hit package from over four decades of band history, there are also a few songs from the current album "Auf Ex!", on which the band proves that they are not just good at nostalgia. On the contrary, Extrabreit still sound fresh and continue to leave nothing to be desired with party hits such as "Die Fressen aus dem Pott".
